Talimena Scenic Drive begins just outside of Mena, Arkansas to the west. The road climbs to the top of Rich mountain and continues for many miles well into Oklahoma. This is one of my favorite places to drive and typically is not crowded...at least near sunrise, anyway. This road runs along the ridges to near Talihina, Oklahoma within the Ouachita National Forest and the average elevation is 2500 feet or so. The forest is composed of pines and hardwoods with bears and rattlesnakes-a-plenty. The Ouachita Trail finishes out in this area as well. The Upper Kiamichi Wilderness is just past the border into Oklahoma. I like this place and am amazed that Oklahoma has such a topography.
