Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area
3/16/2013
I have not visited the Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area in while so here I am again. I have explored many areas within the wilderness but I have not actually hiked much along the river itself. Access was at the Dahl Memorial near Atkins Creek. Entry to the forest was made at 6:15 a.m. in the dark...sunrise to be at 7:19. The weather was essentially clear with temp in the low 50's. The river was in sight by 7:30 and an upstream direction was embarked upon. This is a horseshoe shaped bend in the river and it was found to be quite scenic. Pruitt Hollow empties into the flow at the top of the bend. This is a point i have visited before. After hiking about 2 miles or so I climbed the slope back to my start point and was out by 1:15 p.m. Total mileage was close to 6 with temps in the 70's upon exit.
